Primary School

At the Central Coast Steiner Primary School, the individual is celebrated within a strong, supportive community.  Our teachers are fully qualified and dedicated to nurturing a genuine love of learning in each child.  We deliver the NSW Australian Curriculum in a way that brings learning alive.

The Steiner approach places great importance on the formative period of childhood. Our kindergarten program builds strong foundations for learning in a healthy, developmentally appropriate way. We give the children solid foundations in literacy and numeracy.

As from year one, each class has a teacher who stays with that class until the end of class six. The teacher develops a close relationship with the students and family. The beauty of the class teacher period is that the teacher acquires a deep understanding of the learning needs of each individual.

Regular communication with parents ensures that clear feedback on the child’s holistic development informs the learning pathway.

In the primary school, the class teachers are supported by specialist language, cooking, arts, PE, library and music teachers. Specialist music teachers from the Central Coast Conservatorium deliver components of our music curriculum.

In the mornings, the ‘main lesson’ program integrates learning in ways that are relevant and meaningful to children. Our approach to learning is one that avoids comparison, standardisation and competition. Instead, we focus on individual growth, collaboration and social cohesion.

The curriculum balances academic achievement, artistic experience and practical skills- the head, heart and hands. The imagination of the students is fired through our artistic approach to all facets of learning. The will of the child is actively engaged in purposeful and practical experiences, involving problem-solving and teamwork.

We nurture the moral development of the child by instilling a sense of reverence and gratitude for all life.

Our sports program is varied and focuses on team-work and skill building in the primary years. Our outdoor education program is fun, adventurous and increasingly challenging as the child develops. Recent highlights have included the Class  3 Farm Stay, the Class 4 ‘Zoo Snooze’ at Taronga Zoo, class 5 ‘Greek Olympics’ re-enactment in Canberra and Class 6  surfing trip.

The primary school journey concludes at the end of year six, enabling a smooth transition into our rich high school program.

“The need for imagination, a sense of truth and a feeling of responsibility – these are the three forces which are the very nerve of education.” — Rudolf Steiner
